A 17-year-old high school student is hospitalized on life support at Hippokration Hospital in Thessaloniki after losing consciousness earlier today (18/9) at his school in Pefkochori, Chalkidiki. According to a post by KIDS SAVE LIVES, the incident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m., when the 17-year-old collapsed in the school courtyard. Staff immediately alerted EKAV (the national emergency medical service) as well as a private physician from Pefkochori and vice president of KIDS SAVE LIVES, Konstantinos Lazaridis.

According to the same source, the doctor arrived within approximately three minutes and found that the student was not breathing and was in cardiac arrest. A defibrillator was immediately deployed, which detected a shockable rhythm, and the first defibrillation was administered while CPR was continued until the ambulance crew arrived. During the resuscitation effort, the teenager initially regained a cardiac rhythm, but then suffered a second cardiac arrest. Resuscitation efforts continued inside the ambulance by the EKAV paramedics and the attending physician.
With the assistance of a police patrol car clearing the route, the student was transported to the Kassandreia Health Center, with CPR and defibrillation ongoing throughout the journey.
Chalkidiki: Teenager receives CPR for 50 minutes and 7 defibrillation shocks
According to KIDS SAVE LIVES, the resuscitation effort lasted approximately 50 minutes in total — at the school, in the ambulance, and at the health center — during which seven defibrillations were administered. The 17-year-old ultimately regained a cardiac rhythm and was transferred to Hippokration Hospital in Thessaloniki. According to information from the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), the minor is hospitalized on life support in a critical condition in the hospital’s coronary care unit. He is hemodynamically unstable and has cerebral edema.
