Unspeakable grief has fallen over Ano Liosia following a fatal car accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday (25/08) on Fylis Avenue, claiming the life of a 17-year-old girl. The teenager was returning from a night out with her 19-year-old boyfriend and three friends when their vehicle veered off the road and crashed violently into a utility pole, killing her instantly.

Ano Liosia fatal crash: How the accident happened
The accident occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. on the road connecting Hasia to Ano Liosia.
The vehicle was being driven by the 17-year-old’s 19-year-old boyfriend, with the victim seated in the front passenger seat and three friends in the back — a 19-year-old boy, an 18-year-old girl, and another 17-year-old girl. All of them were pulled from the wreckage injured and taken to hospital. However, the 17-year-old had already taken her last breath by the time rescuers arrived at the scene.
“What we know so far is that, due to excessive speed, the driver lost control and the car hit a utility pole. There were four other young people in the car. Our child was sitting in the front right seat and on impact, her head struck the pole directly. It was the pole that stopped the car,” said the teenager’s aunt.
The 19-year-old driver is currently serving his military service and was on leave at the time of the accident. He is now hospitalized under police guard at the 401 General Military Hospital, with officers waiting for the green light to question him.
A “death trap” road: What local residents are saying
At the scene of the tragedy, relatives and friends have been leaving flowers in memory of the 17-year-old, while local residents are voicing their anger and concern over the dangerous nature of this particular stretch of road.
The road features long straight sections connecting Hasia to Ano Liosia — a layout that frequently tempts drivers into speeding, a habit that has tragically proven fatal on more than one occasion.
Residents are calling the road a “death trap,” pointing to inadequate lighting and demanding the installation of speed cameras to help reduce accidents.
Following the latest crash, no skid marks were found at the scene and no other vehicle has been found to be involved. The condition of the four injured individuals is not considered life-threatening, as all eyes turn to the family of the 17-year-old, who are struggling to find strength in the wake of this devastating tragedy.
