Burned trees, ash, and blackened landscapes. These are the images left behind by the massive wildfires in Rethymno and Plomari, capturing the full scale of the destruction. The fire front on Lesbos is now inactive, as residents come face to face with the devastating aftermath. At the same time, the wildfire has left a heavy mark on Rethymno, as reported by e-kriti.gr. Vast stretches of land have been reduced to a scorched wasteland, and nature will need considerable time to heal. The photos below paint a striking picture of the day after the fires. In Crete, there are reports of homes, farmhouses, and vehicles that have been damaged or completely destroyed, though an official damage assessment has yet to be released.
