A prosecutor has filed felony charges against a 60-year-old man arrested in Lagkadas, Thessaloniki, after authorities discovered a facility on his private premises where surgical procedures were allegedly being performed on animals without the required license. During the inspection, officers also recorded violations related to the housing and living conditions of the animals kept on site.
Thessaloniki: Felony charges filed over torture of stray animals
The 60-year-old has been formally charged with the torture of stray companion animals, an offense linked to the discovery of seven dogs and four cats confined in cages under conditions that failed to meet the legally required animal welfare standards. All eleven animals were removed from the premises, according to a police announcement.
The same announcement noted that two rooms equipped with surgical tables, instruments, and various other materials were found on the property, where surgical operations appear to have been carried out.
The 60-year-old defendant has been referred to appear before the Thessaloniki examining magistrate.
