An emergency alarm was triggered in the early hours of Thursday (9/7) at Sismanoglio Hospital in Marousi, when a fire broke out in a section of the medical facility, prompting an immediate response from the Fire Brigade and hospital staff.

A total of 28 firefighters are on the scene, deployed with 7 vehicles, including a specialized ladder truck and an articulated boom vehicle, working to bring the blaze under control and ensure the safety of patients and staff.

As a result of the incident, the wing where the fire broke out — affecting at least one room — was evacuated. Two patients who experienced respiratory difficulties due to smoke inhalation were transferred to the Emergency Department as a precautionary measure.
According to information available so far, no injuries have been reported, and firefighting operations are still ongoing. The cause of the fire is expected to be investigated once it has been fully extinguished.
