A story of tension and maternal selflessness unfolded when a 16-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest at her home in Promachoi, Almopia, in the municipality of Aridaia, as revealed by the Facebook page “Kids Save Lives”. The post highlighted that the girl’s mother had been trained by their organization to perform CPR — a skill that proved lifesaving. The family’s younger daughter woke up after hearing her sister breathing heavily and immediately alerted her parents. The mother, who had received CPR training through Kids Save Lives, acted without hesitation. After confirming that her daughter was not breathing normally, she called for help and began performing CPR. The father, meanwhile, called emergency services (EKAB) and rushed to retrieve one of the two defibrillators available in the village, while another trained citizen from “Kids Save Lives” arrived on scene to assist with CPR.

Transferred to Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center
The defibrillator was applied in under two minutes, and with the very first shock, the 16-year-old’s breathing was restored. Emergency services arrived to find her alive 45 minutes later, due to the village’s remote location. A lengthy series of transfers followed — from the Aridaia Health Center, to Edessa Hospital, then to the ICU in Larissa — before she finally reached the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center in Athens, where a next-generation implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) was fitted.
The incident took place in mid-June, and approximately two weeks later, the girl returned home in full health. “Everything worked as it should in the Chain of Survival, proving that trained citizens and defibrillators can make all the difference — especially in rural areas, remote regions, and on the Greek islands!” wrote “Kids Save Lives” in the related post.
