The man injured by a collapsing partition wall at a building under construction in Marousi has described the terrifying moments he experienced on the afternoon of Saturday, July 4.
The timeline of the wall collapse in Marousi
The collapse occurred shortly after 7:00 PM on Georgiou Papandreou Street in Marousi, when a section of the shared partition wall with an adjacent building under construction gave way. The wall and bricks came crashing down onto the roof terrace and courtyard of the neighboring single-family home, leaving its owner with minor injuries.
“It was six o’clock in the afternoon. I was sitting in the inner courtyard of my home when a faint noise came from the construction next door — and within seconds, the entire wall had collapsed on top of and into my yard,” Konstantinos Doukas told ERTnews.
“If I had been standing, I would have been seriously hurt”
“A section of the wall must have broken loose. The good thing is that I wasn’t seriously hurt — only my leg. I called the police and the fire department because we also had an oil leak. They arrived quickly, took me to the hospital, and I was eventually discharged,” he said.
“I was very lucky because I was sitting down. If I had been standing, I would have been seriously hurt,” he added.
