A stunning video is going viral online, showing pufferfish attacking and biting each other in a frenzied battle to snatch a piece of bait. The video was posted on Facebook by a user who didn’t specify when it was recorded, writing in the caption: “Amazing video just sent to me from Crete.” The footage shows a fisherman who has baited his rod with a small fish, while two pufferfish clash aggressively in their attempts to grab it.

More fish of the same species then move in, with one attacking the other ferociously in a bid to claim the bait on the fishing line. The video is rapidly making the rounds online and appears to confirm reports that pufferfish do not hesitate to attack — or even cannibalize — members of their own species.
