Beloved actress Maro Kontou remains hospitalized at Attikon Hospital, where a disturbing incident unfolded on Wednesday night when a 92-year-old man attempted to approach the ward where the well-known actress is being treated — while carrying a knife. Hospital security staff responded immediately, and police were called to the scene to identify the elderly man. Following the incident, the man gave his own account of events, insisting he had no intention of harming Maro Kontou and that he always carried the knife with him when walking at night. Meanwhile, the hospital’s shift supervisor provided a detailed description of how the elderly man was spotted and stopped before he could reach the actress’s room.

Maro Kontou: What the 92-year-old claimed
Speaking to Mega channel, the elderly man denied having any intention of harming the famous actress. “I always carry a knife. I didn’t have it because of Maro Kontou. I walk at night — I had planned to head back home,” he said. He then made a personal remark about his family background, adding: “I am an orphan on both my mother’s and father’s side. My father was from Constantinople.” His statements came after the incident at the hospital, during which he had attempted to make his way down the corridor leading to the actress’s ward.
The security guard’s account of what happened
The hospital’s shift supervisor described how the incident unfolded from the moment the elderly man was first noticed. “He came in for visiting hours at 10 o’clock at night. He was wandering around and my colleagues stopped him. They called me as the shift supervisor and I went over,” he explained. According to his account, the 92-year-old had already made it to the corridor where Maro Kontou’s room is located and was claiming to be a relative of hers. “He had reached the corridor where her room was. He was saying he wanted to go there, that he was her cousin, things like that,” he said. Hospital staff escorted him to an area in the courtyard to wait until police arrived. “I brought him downstairs, we took him to a space in the courtyard, and I called the police,” he added.
During the check, it was discovered that the elderly man had a knife on him, concealed inside a small bag he was wearing. The security supervisor explained that he managed to take the item from him without the situation escalating further. “When I took it from him without him realizing, he started shouting…” he said, also noting that the 92-year-old appeared to be in a state of confusion.
Thanks to the swift response of the security staff, the incident was resolved without any injuries or further disruption, and the relevant authorities subsequently took over the matter and proceeded to verify the elderly man’s identity.
