Who was Takis Gkonias?
Takis Gkonias began his football career at Levadiakos before securing a transfer to Olympiacos, where he played across two separate spells (1993–1997 and 2003–2004). He also wore the Iraklis shirt on two occasions (1997–1998 and 2002–2003), while his career also included stints at Sporting Gijón, Paniliakos, Panionios, Messina, and Crotone, where he brought his playing career to a close. He also represented the Greek national team, scoring one international goal across his two caps.
Following his retirement from playing, Gkonias moved into coaching, taking charge of clubs including Glyfada, Episkopi, Athens Kallithea, Ergotelis, Wadi Degla, and Pyramids FC. At the Egyptian club, he served two separate stints — from June to September 2021, and again from April 2022 to January 2023 — with Pyramids FC marking the final chapter of his coaching career.
