The investigation into the double murder of a 50-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son in Aigio is continuing with particular care and delicate handling, a case that has sparked intense interest among prosecutorial and judicial authorities. Criminal charges of premeditated murder have already been filed against the woman’s 65-year-old Italian partner, who remains the prime suspect in the double killing. However, the nearly completed forensic report from the Hellenic Police’s criminal laboratories indicates that no trace of DNA or fingerprints belonging to the Italian suspect has been found on any of the evidence collected and examined.
On the contrary, only the son’s DNA was found under the 50-year-old woman’s fingernails, while the weapon used to shoot the 26-year-old yielded genetic material belonging to the mother, the son, and an unidentified third person — genetic material that in no way matches that of the Italian defendant. Also striking is the fact that no blood was found anywhere else in the house beyond the room where the incident took place.
Double murder in Aigio: Investigation focuses on why the 26-year-old had returned home
Given that the 65-year-old’s presence cannot be traced in any of the numerous pieces of evidence, authorities are continuing to carefully examine how the mother and son were found stabbed to death in the room where the young man slept. At the same time, significant weight is being placed on the reason why the 26-year-old had returned to his home in Longos, Aigio, alongside the defendant’s claims regarding psychological issues within the family environment.
Authorities are investigating whether this was a routine, pre-planned visit by the 26-year-old to his mother in the village, or whether his presence was connected to a difficult decision that was about to be made concerning her.
Testimony from individuals who knew the 26-year-old, along with the full body of evidence collected and examined, may lead to new developments and a potential twist in the case that has not previously been anticipated.
