Stavros Balaskas is expected to be summoned before the courts following statements he made on a television program regarding the investigation into the murder of Stavroula Leventaki.
According to parakritika.gr, on the sidelines of a press conference related to the case, it emerged that Mr. Balaskas will be called to testify regarding his claims about how police authorities handled the investigation. He had publicly referred to what he described as a “blunder” — the release of the 43-year-old suspect after just two depositions, despite the individual allegedly being at the center of the investigation.
He had also claimed that the Chania Police Director, Kanellos Nikolaou, was particularly displeased with this development and had expressed his dissatisfaction to his subordinates.
However, according to official statements from police authorities, all actions taken during the course of the investigation were the result of a specific operational plan and were carried out based on the evidence available to investigators at the time. For this reason, Mr. Balaskas is now expected to be summoned to account for his public remarks concerning the case.
