Femicide in Drama: The heartbreaking words of the victim’s sister
Continuing her emotional address, she said: “My sister lost her life at the hands of her husband. No person deserves to die this way. Silence kills, and abuse is not a private matter — it is a social problem that demands action and protection.” She then added, in words that deeply moved those present: “I hope no other woman ever finds herself in the same situation as my sister, because all she wanted was to live free.”
Closing her tribute, the officer’s sister expressed her heartfelt wish that no other woman would suffer the same fate. “I hope no other woman ever finds herself in the same situation as my sister, because all she wanted was to live free. In memory of my sister and all victims, let us take action and stand by those who need us,” she concluded.
The funeral of the 45-year-old
The funeral service began early on Wednesday morning (June 17) at the Church of Saint Dimitrios in Kato Nevrokopi, the hometown of the victim. A Greek Police honor guard stood outside the church to pay their respects, while the coffin of the murdered woman arrived draped in the Greek flag. According to voria.gr, the General Police Director of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the Police Director of Drama were among those present. The funeral of the 52-year-old perpetrator is also scheduled to take place on the same day in his hometown of Koudounia, Drama.
The uncle’s outrage
The victim’s uncle has also spoken out, making no effort to conceal his anger toward the 52-year-old perpetrator. Speaking to ANT1, he revealed that “things had not been going well between them lately,” and added that the officer “was constantly threatening her that he would kill himself. She wanted to leave him because things couldn’t go on any longer.”
“When a person threatens someone with a gun, that person needs a very different kind of help. Lately, if you saw him out on the streets, he was in a terrible state. Did his fellow officers not see that — were they blind? Did they not care?” he said, adding that “my niece had told some of her colleagues that she feared for her life.”
