An alert was raised at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and the Hellenic Coast Guard following a notification about an explosive device on the passenger-vehicle ferry “Blue Star 2“. The vessel was operating a scheduled route from Piraeus to Syros, Patmos, Leros, Kalymnos, Kos, and Rhodes. According to an update from the Hellenic Coast Guard, the ship has diverted from its course and is heading to the port of Lavrio for thorough inspections to be conducted by explosives experts from the Coast Guard and a specially trained bomb detection dog.
The vessel is carrying 952 passengers and 98 crew members. Fire Service and ambulance service (EKAV) teams are also heading to the port of Lavrio.
