New evidence emerges about the double murder in Longos Aigio with victims being a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old son. Live News revealed everything described by the police officers who arrived first at the crime scene. As an experienced officer notes, he immediately understood that the motive was not robbery, and in his eyes the 65-year-old Italian became the prime suspect for the double homicide.
Aigio: shocking descriptions from police officers who arrived first at the crime scene
“The main entrance, as well as the back, showed no signs of forced entry. As soon as we entered we found that the rooms were not messy. The image they presented was the usual everyday use of a house”. In contrast, the only room in the house that was messy with a broken shelf, various objects scattered on the floor like a laptop, a key and a cartridge, was the bedroom where the two bodies were found. The description of how they found mother and son in a pool of blood is breathtaking: “When we tried to enter the second bedroom, the door was half-open. On the tiles in front of it there was a blood stain. Right behind the door, was the 54-year-old’s body face down. Her nightgown was unbuttoned and in the chest and abdomen area I observed more than 20 stab wounds“.
Under the woman’s lifeless body there was also a large kitchen knife, while on the bed the 26-year-old lay dead covered with a blanket. Everything indicates he was sleeping, with his back turned to the room’s door, when the perpetrator entered and shot him in the right temple. “On the bed was the 26-year-old’s body, without clothes, covered with a colorful blanket in a pool of blood. On the right temple he had a clear gunshot wound from close contact while in the chest area he had 4 stab wounds“. Within a few square meters two bodies with dozens of stab wounds and in the closet of the same room hung the hunting shotgun and a box with cartridges. “Inside the gun’s chamber there was one fired cartridge and on the floor there was another identical one that had not been used”.
“The 65-year-old was absolutely calm” – “I’m certain he’s the perpetrator of the murders”
Next to the police officers examining the scene, the 65-year-old partner of the murdered woman. Unperturbed, calm and expressionless as he is described. “Throughout my stay at the scene, the 65-year-old was absolutely calm, expressionless and completely composed. From considering the evidence, no third party entered by force into the house nor was anything removed from it. This fact reveals that the two homicides were not committed with robbery as a motive“.
The police officers examine all areas meticulously. The slightest detail could prove useful, like a curved knife that was always kept as decoration in the living room, which strangely that day was found on the bedroom nightstand. “From the disruption of the space, the defensive wounds that reveal a struggle, the breaking of furniture and the single gunshot, it’s proven that inside the house during the commission of the homicides great noise was caused“. Spatially and only within such a small house, it’s puzzling how the 65-year-old who claimed he slept on the couch that fatal night heard nothing. We asked him if he has hearing problems or if he had taken some medication and he said no. Asking him again how it’s possible he didn’t hear noise, he claimed he heard nothing. He maintained he had no connection to the homicide but on the contrary believes his partner and her son killed each other without him realizing it.
“He pretended not to understand Greek”
The persistent questions from police officers seemed to stress the 65-year-old who suddenly claimed he didn’t know the language well although he’s lived in Greece for at least 15 years. “He started telling us he didn’t understand the Greek language while until that moment he fully comprehended the questions“. In the eyes of the police officers from the first moment it was obvious what exactly had happened. “The perpetrator went to the room, and while the 26-year-old was sleeping, first shot him at close range and then inflicted knife wounds to his chest. The 54-year-old, who heard the noise from the adjacent bedroom, entered and was attacked with the knife. Judging from the broken furniture and defensive wounds a struggle followed. I’m absolutely certain the Italian is the perpetrator of the two murders”. The 65-year-old informed authorities that no money or jewelry was missing from the house while he claimed inability to give more information as he doesn’t know the language well.
Aigio: the actions and testimony of the Italian’s friend who arrived first at the crime scene
The actions and testimonies of the key witness are now at the center of the investigation. This concerns the Italian defendant’s friend, who arrived first at the bloody house in Aigio, even before police forces arrived. According to his claims, this man was notified by the 65-year-old while he was at a microbiology laboratory for tests. This time sequence and the details the witness provides have opened the path to a thorough analysis of events.
“At 11:44 I was in Aigio Achaia, where I had gone for microbiological tests. I received a phone call via WhatsApp from my acquaintance and friend M., an Italian citizen, who lives in Longos about 50 meters from my house and crying he told me with the word ‘subito’ meaning quickly, ‘Dimitri house, subito’. I asked him ‘what happened’, and he continued telling me ‘subito, house’. From what I saw on my mobile phone, our communication lasted 48 seconds“. The witness begins rushing toward the parking where he had left his car. He wanted, as he says, to return to Longos Aigio as quickly as possible. “From what I also saw later, he made another call to me, 8 minutes later, which I didn’t catch, because I ran to get my car, which I had parked in a municipal parking“.
The Italian defendant’s friend gets in his car and makes the journey. As he said, it took about 10 minutes to get from Aigio center to Longos. The tone in the 65-year-old’s voice had worried him. “Arriving in Longos at M.’s house, I received a new call from M. at 11:54 and told him ‘I’m next to you, I’m arriving’. Our communication lasted 29 seconds“.
The next minutes he finds himself at the entrance of the blood-stained house. The images he saw will remain, as he says, indelibly etched in his memory, as well as what his friend told him: “I asked M. three times if Olympios is home and M. continued repeating my name with tears. I understood something had happened and we proceeded together toward the house. I passed the living room where everything seemed fine and going toward the back of the house, I saw on the floor outside the half-open door of Olympios’s room, a red stain, coming from inside the bedroom and I assumed it was blood. I pushed the door a little to see better and understood the door was obstructed from opening and saw on the bed the form of a human body covered with a blanket and right behind the door Maria lying there. I started shouting their names and then M. told me ‘Dimitri morto’, meaning they are dead. I went outside and told him I would call the police. I called the ambulance at 11:56 and the police at 12:00. At 12:05 I made a second call to 166“.
The Italian defendant seemed shocked as his friend remembers. He himself was trying to learn what had happened earlier: “Until the ambulance arrived at the scene, I asked M. what had happened and he told me that at 23:00 the previous day Maria had gone to sleep in their bedroom and after a while he also went to sleep with her, but because she was snoring, M. went and slept on the couch in the house’s living room. In the morning, M. woke up around 11:00 as he told me and went first to the bathroom to wash and then went to Maria’s room, but didn’t find her there. He thought Maria had gone to sleep in the same room as her son Olympios, which she used to do. So, M. went and knocked on Olympios’s bedroom door and since he received no answer, called Maria’s name and opened the door and found Maria dead on the floor and Olympios dead on his bed. I asked him if he heard anything and he told me he hadn’t heard anything. He didn’t mention anything else and I from the distress I had went outside“.
Police ruled out third party involvement in the crime from the first moment. On the night of the murder, cameras showed no one else besides the residents entered the house. The key witness also gave additional crucial information about the weapon found in the house and confiscated. A shotgun that the 65-year-old Italian had taken care, as his friend says, to make functional: “Yes, I know he had a shotgun which because it wasn’t functional, I helped him by taking it to a gun shop in Aigio for repair and so the weapon was now functional. Also, I know Maria kept this specific weapon that belonged to her father as a keepsake, hidden in her house. I recognize the knife found in its sheath on the nightstand because I had seen it in their house and admired it. As M. had told me it was a family heirloom“. Now he too awaits official answers. From the first moment he emphasizes he didn’t consider his friend capable of criminal action. In any case his words and descriptions seem to have helped the police officers conducting the investigation.
