Financial motives appear to be behind the double crime in Aigion, according to revelations from the grandmother of the 26-year-old victim, who was murdered along with his mother.
The elderly woman revealed that the 26-year-old, who lived and studied in Germany, had initially planned to visit Greece in the summer to see his grandmother and introduce his girlfriend to her. However, he returned earlier after his mother called him.
According to her testimony, the 54-year-old mother had sold a property a few months ago and transferred the money to her son for his studies, which caused tension with her 65-year-old Italian partner. He believed he should have a say in financial decisions since he had contributed financially to their shared home.
The ongoing disagreements led to intense conflicts, with the mother eventually asking for her son’s help, who returned to Greece with the purpose of removing her partner from the house.
Crime in Aigion: What the 26-year-old’s grandmother revealed
“Why did his mother call him to come? My other grandson told me ‘grandmother, his mother called him and told him to come here because she has a problem with the Italian, a financial one. Because she sold a property and gave all the money to Olympios, since the child is doing a master’s degree in Germany’. This Italian got angry about giving the money, they fought so she could kick him out,” the 26-year-old’s grandmother told “Revelations”.
“The child wasn’t going to come to Greece now. On the phone he said he would come in the summer to introduce his girlfriend to me,” the 26-year-old’s grandmother said.
“Because he put money into the house, he didn’t want to give it to her son. That’s where the fights started and they were killing each other. ‘Will your son waste the money on girlfriends?’. That’s why he killed this child,” she added on the ANT1 show, appealing “to check the phone records to see what his mother told him and he suddenly came to Greece”.
