Custody of the two minor children of the Polish professor who was murdered in Greece has finally passed to his brother after a lengthy process that lasted almost a year. This development comes just days after a new family tragedy caused by the children’s mother’s suicide in Korydallos prison, an event that further burdened the already difficult situation experienced by the two minor siblings. The murdered professor’s brother spoke to Star’s Central News Bulletin, describing the need to find the love and care that befits the two children, while speaking to Live News, he also referred to the efforts he made throughout these months to bring the children close to him and offer them a stable and safe family environment in Poland.
Murder of Polish professor: Custody of children goes to his brother
The case of custody of the two children occupied the competent services for months, as numerous procedures were required to complete the transfer of responsibility for their care to their uncle. He, according to the report, was constantly contacting the competent authorities asking to be allowed to take on his nephews and transfer them to Poland.
The situation became even more pressing after the children’s mother’s suicide in Korydallos prison. As soon as he was informed of the tragic development, he immediately traveled to Greece to be next to the two children and accelerate the pending procedures. His request was firm from the first moment: to take custody himself and have the children grow up with their grandmother in Poland, away from the traumatic events that marked their lives recently.
Polish professor’s brother: “The children need specialized therapies”
In his interview with Star, the Polish professor’s brother described the psychological state of the two children and the needs they have after what they experienced. “The children need specialized therapies and special psychological support. They love me very much. Yesterday, when we were talking, they only asked me when they would start packing their things. They already have their own room. They came to Poland in December for a week and didn’t want to return back.”
This statement captures the mood prevailing in the two children, who seem to be waiting impatiently for their move to Poland and the start of a new daily routine next to their relatives. Their uncle believes that the family environment will contribute significantly to restoring their mental balance and will provide them with the conditions to gradually leave behind the traumatic experiences they have lived through.
The new life in Poland
For eleven months the two children were hosted in a care facility in Greece, waiting for the completion of procedures that would determine their future. During this period, the professor’s brother remained in constant communication with the Greek authorities and with the children themselves. According to what he mentioned, in Poland the space where they will live has already been prepared. The children have their own room, while the family has organized all the necessary conditions so that their adaptation becomes as smooth as possible.
Their transfer to Poland is considered by their relatives an opportunity for a new beginning, after a period characterized by losses, legal procedures and intense psychological pressure. The case moved public opinion both in Greece and Poland, as it concerns two children who found themselves facing successive tragic events within a short period of time. Now, the completion of the custody procedure opens the way for a new chapter in their lives, with their family hoping they will be able to find the peace and support they so desperately need.
