Weather instability is decreasing ahead of the weekend and temperatures are rising, according to meteorological forecasts. However, concerns are growing about fire risk due to strengthened northerly winds that will blow across the Aegean Sea. Specifically, on Saturday and especially on Sunday and Monday, meltemi winds are expected to prevail in the Aegean. This factor, combined with high temperatures, is likely to significantly increase the risk of forest fire outbreaks and spread.
Although temperatures dropped close to 10 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours, coastal areas quickly exceeded 20 degrees. Late in the afternoon, temperatures will approach 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in many areas, and locally reach 33 degrees Celsius, with the highest values recorded in the interior of mainland Greece, away from the sea.
Weather: Forecast for the coming days
On Saturday, unstable weather phenomena will be limited purely to mountainous areas along the Pindus mountain range. In the rest of the country, the weather will be hot, with temperatures showing a slight rise, reaching 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.
Regarding Sunday, according to meteorologist Anastasia Tyraski, very limited instability is expected. Some light cloud cover will develop and a few local showers may occur. Temperature, however, will rise, climbing above 35 degrees and locally reaching 36 degrees Celsius. At the same time, northerly winds will strengthen, reaching 6 to 7 on the Beaufort scale in the central and southern Aegean, a factor that increases fire risk.
On Monday and Tuesday, instability appears to extend again during midday and afternoon hours in the interior of mainland Greece and the Peloponnese, with northern currents persisting in the Aegean, resembling meltemi winds.
Overall, the country is entering a distinctly summer weather pattern in the coming days. Instability, showing periods of intensification and decline, will periodically affect parts of the mainland, while local phenomena may be accompanied by hail and thunderstorms.
