After-midnight raid by Greek FBI
The prison situation led to immediate mobilization of central security services. As tempo24 reveals, shortly after 2 AM on Thursday (5/6), a special unit from the newly established service (known as the “Greek FBI”) conducted a surprise raid in Patras, traveling directly from Athens. The heavily armed police officers stormed the correctional facility and proceeded with thorough searches of numerous cells, catching inmates off guard.
The extensive operation immediately bore fruit, as officers located and confiscated mobile phones, which are naturally prohibited from being in inmates’ possession.
Investigations are in full progress, while official announcements from authorities are expected in the coming period, which will shed light on both the causes of the 72-year-old’s death and the final results of the major police operation.
