The United States expresses displeasure over the decision by the Piraeus Court of Appeal that led to the release of Alexandros Giotopoulos, convicted as a leading member and mastermind of the terrorist organization “November 17.”
In a new written statement, a spokesperson for the State Department spoke of “deep disappointment” by the American government regarding the judicial development, emphasizing the importance Washington places on combating terrorism and delivering justice for victims of the organization’s attacks. Meanwhile, the American side appears to be exerting pressure on Athens, demanding that all available legal means be exhausted to overturn the decision and return Alexandros Giotopoulos to prison.
State Department spokesperson’s statement on Giotopoulos
“The United States is deeply disappointed by the decision of the Piraeus Court of Appeal to release Alexandros Giotopoulos, the leader and mastermind of the far-left Greek terrorist organization November 17.

Their loved ones made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation and deserve justice. Terrorism must never be tolerated or justified. The United States will continue to stand with victims of terrorism and work with our partners to ensure that those who commit such heinous acts face full consequences.”
The reported release of the leader of the far-left Greek terror group responsible for attacks that killed 23 people, including four American officials is deeply troubling.
