Engineers surveying a plot of land on the southern side of Rethymno, in Crete, were caught off guard when two brothers allegedly attacked them with machetes. According to “Rethemniotika News,” which reports on the incident that occurred last week, the two brothers had been renting the plot until recently to use it for their animals, however their lease had expired. Despite continuing to use the land illegally, they verbally abused the engineers and attacked them with machetes. Police who arrived at the scene arrested the two brothers, who are now charged with aggravated assault and are expected to stand trial soon. Both the local Rethymno engineer and the one who came from Athens were hospitalized following the attack. Notably, both the Greek Police headquarters and the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, have been informed about the incident.
