Multiple morning suburban train services were cancelled by Hellenic Train on Thursday morning (21/5), following police intervention in an incident involving a person who threatened to commit suicide.
The individual was eventually removed by police forces without endangering his life, while the company requests passengers’ understanding.
According to sources, the incident involved a man of Turkish origin who faces psychiatric problems and was taken to a psychiatric facility. The man had climbed up and was hanging from the train’s power cables, resulting in the interruption of electrical supply.
Services are being gradually restored, while cancellations occurred on lines to Chalkida, Kiato, Airport and Ano Liosia.
According to an announcement by Hellenic Train, the disruption resulted in delayed departure of trains from depots, causing delays and modifications to services on the Piraeus-Airport, Athens-Chalkida and Kiato-Aigio lines.

Hellenic Train informs passengers that, following orders from the Infrastructure Manager OSE – Greek Railways and relevant authorities, rail traffic and power supply were suspended from 03:55 to 05:25 on the Agioi Anargyroi-Piraeus section, due to an incident near the line in the Athens Railway Station area.
Due to the traffic suspension, train departures from depots were delayed, affecting services on the Piraeus-Airport-Piraeus, Athens-Chalkida-Athens and Kiato-Aigio-Kiato lines, which experienced delays and modifications. To better serve passengers, some services were replaced with Hellenic Train buses.
Hellenic Train is making every effort to gradually normalize services and thanks passengers for their understanding.
