The epilogue of this unprecedented story in Heliopolis was written late Thursday afternoon (14/5). The second 17-year-old girl passed away after more than 48 hours of fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit of KAT hospital. Despite the desperate efforts of doctors, the young girl succumbed to her severe injuries, which she sustained last Tuesday (12/5) after falling from the rooftop of a 5-story apartment building on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street in Heliopolis. With a brief announcement, the KAT hospital administration announced the tragic conclusion of this unique story: “Today 14/05/2026 at 19:54, the 17-year-old student who was hospitalized in our hospital’s ICU since 12/05/2026 lost her battle with life. KAT Hospital expresses sincere condolences to her family.”
Unequal battle for the second 17-year-old
From the first moment, it became clear that the 17-year-old was fighting an unequal battle. A tremendous effort was made by doctors from multiple specialties as the nature of the injuries was complex. Yesterday, at noon, the first critical 48-hour period of the 17-year-old’s hospitalization was completed, however, no new information had emerged regarding the next step in her stabilization process. Her condition hung by a thread. What competent sources maintained was that there was minimal significance in listing the medical procedures taking place, as at any moment the doctors’ attention could shift due to the nature of the case. As indeed happened, despite the fact that, according to the same sources, especially on Tuesday night at the hospital facilities, scenes of unprecedented mobilization unfolded, with doctors from nearly 20 different specialties intervening in an effort to stabilize her condition.
End of investigation in Heliopolis case
There are no longer many pending matters regarding the police investigation into the high-profile but tragic Heliopolis case. The police have long concluded with certainty on the suicide scenario, and as is customary in such cases, gradually and discreetly the investigations are being deactivated, out of respect for the deceased and their families. It is now up to the two families, if they wish the investigation to continue in depth, whether there are suspicions that an external factor pushed the two girls to take this desperate step. However, the police of Heliopolis Station have all the evidence they need in case the Authorities are called upon to continue the investigation. The note, the diary, the statements that have been taken, and of course the mobile phones. According to police sources, no recent communication with a third party has emerged that would have pressured the two girls in any way.
Timeline of the Heliopolis tragedy
According to friends of the two girls from a Heliopolis high school, nothing foreshadowed what unfolded on Tuesday afternoon (12/5). It was around 09:00 in the morning when the now-deceased 17-year-old visited her friend’s house in the fateful apartment building on Eleftheriou Venizelou Street. The two girls had decided not to go to school. At an unsuspecting time, they asked the building’s administrator for the keys to the rooftop of the 5-story building. She, without suspecting anything, complied, indicating that the keys were in plain sight. Around 12 noon, the two girls went up to the rooftop, went outside, and locked the door behind them. They reportedly put on headphones, played music, and from very close distance to each other, fell into the void.
“A long, drawn-out cry was heard and a very loud crash. Turning my head, I see the two girls. I called the ambulance and 100. The ambulance came quickly. A lady came down from the 1st floor. She approached one of the two girls. A young man also came, the brother of the girl who was breathing. The other girl was unconscious. I moved them away and went close, talking to her to keep her eyes open,” a witness stated.
A real race against time followed. Two ambulance stations picked up the girls two minutes apart. Police sirens began wailing and within seven minutes the convoy had reached Asclepieion Hospital in Voula. The attempt to revive the unconscious 17-year-old lasted one hour. Shortly after, however, she died. The other was intubated and after medical consultation, it was decided to transfer her to KAT. Around 16:00, the 17-year-old was among dozens of doctors and nurses. According to competent sources, during those hours, doctors from at least 20 specialties passed by in an attempt to stabilize her condition. Surgical intervention followed and then new treatment in the ICU. Since then, the unpredictable lurked at every second that followed. We reached almost 53 hours after the fatal fall for the tragic end of this case to be sealed.
The “cause”
Much was heard regarding the reasons that pushed the girls to proceed simultaneously with such an act. Information sources brought to light a text which appears to be a note left behind by one of the two girls. “Mom and dad, for three years now I have been in a state of depression. And this world may have its beautiful aspects, but perhaps another world might be better. This year is the year I will take university entrance exams, but I’m afraid I won’t do well. I know I won’t do well and so I’ll end up with a job that won’t give me money. Nothing in life pleases me anymore. I can’t see anything positive. Mom and dad, I don’t want to live anymore. This world is no longer for me.” Similar in nature, according to the same sources, were some notes in a diary kept by the other 17-year-old.
