Another success in the fight against drugs has been achieved by the Drug Enforcement Unit as they proceeded with the seizure of 500 kilograms of cannabis and the arrest of a Bulgarian driver, who had taken responsibility for transporting the cargo from Spain to Greece and Turkey. The operation was carried out in Igoumenitsa with authorities showing patience and methodical approach until achieving their objective. The Drug Enforcement Unit proceeded with the arrest of a man of Bulgarian origin, who was the driver of the also Bulgarian truck that was traveling from Valencia, Spain with a probable final destination of Turkey.
As emerges from police sources, the effort to strengthen contacts with international police forces has borne fruit, and this is evident from the information that had arrived from Bulgarian authorities about a month ago.
The information stated that another Bulgarian driver would attempt to bring a significant drug shipment from Spain to the Balkans and Asia Minor. This route appears to be repeated systematically with shipments usually including cannabis (skunk or hash) as well as cocaine.
Drug Enforcement Unit on standby
The Drug Enforcement Unit officers were on standby throughout this period, however the driver did not seem willing to return to the Balkans with his cargo. Competent sources tell parapolitika.gr that we possibly have a change in the traffickers’ modus operandi. The differentiation lies in the fact that trips are no longer “lightning fast” but drivers delay several days or even weeks in order to mislead authorities.

In this case however there was no such issue. The eyes and ears of Drug Enforcement were open even in Spain and specifically in Valencia, where the 500 kilos of skunk cannabis were loaded onto a truck that supposedly transported paper products and hygiene items. As also shown in the video secured by parapolitika.gr, the specially trained Malinois of the K9 unit had no difficulty uncovering the drug packages.
Now, an investigation is being conducted to locate the masterminds who gave the order for transporting this massive shipment. Information indicates that the driver is not cooperating, although authorities know that the cargo was not destined only for Greece but also for Turkey.
