A new case of domestic violence was heard yesterday and will continue in June at the Mixed Jury Court in Chania. The defendants are two parents from the Rethymno area accused of torture against their three daughters. One of the three daughters has passed away, while the other two are now adults.
Trial adjourned in Chania
Specifically, yesterday the trial was adjourned due to the sudden illness of the presiding judge, while the testimony of the eldest daughter shocked the courtroom with all the chilling details of the horror she and her sisters endured. The daughter who is no longer alive had special needs.
The eldest daughter, who now lives abroad, was examined via video conference, thanks to the system installed last year in the courtrooms of the Court of First Instance and Court of Appeal at the Chania Judicial Complex, which appeared to function flawlessly in both video and audio. The father was present in the dock, while the mother was represented by their lawyer. The trial was adjourned and will continue on June 2nd.
