The trial began at the Athens Mixed Jury Court for the murder of 32-year-old Alma, who was killed in November 2024 in Ampelokipoi, Athens, with her husband as the defendant. The 39-year-old, her husband at the time, has confessed to hitting her with a hammer and then strangling her with a cable. Afterwards, he hid her body in the apartment’s attic. According to the case file, the defendant pretended to be worried, claiming that his wife had disappeared, while also sending messages from her mobile phone, maintaining that she had gone abroad.
Ampelokipoi femicide: “I acted in passion,” defendant claimed in his testimony
In his testimony before the court, the defendant claimed he acted in a moment of passionate impulse. “I deny the charge as it is attributed. I was in a state of intense psychological pressure and not in a calm mental state, as stated in the indictment. There was no premeditation, everything happened in that moment. I want to ask for a great apology from my children, whom I deprived of their mother, as well as from her family,” he stated characteristically after the reading of the indictment.
What the mother of tragic 32-year-old Alma said
Regarding the defendant’s behavior, the victim’s mother testified, who has declared representation in support of the prosecution. “He had called me on the phone and pretended to be worried about my daughter. He told me she took her suitcase and left. I wondered if she might have gone to Albania. My daughter used to tell me she was sad, that she worked a lot, even three jobs. She had told me she wasn’t doing well at home, but not that she planned to leave her husband. I don’t want them to do anything to him; I want him to bring my daughter back to me. Can he?” she said emotionally.
For his part, the defendant’s brother testified that “he was a very good father, he loved his children and was constantly with them. He was a good husband and brother. He had created no problems either in Albania or in Greece“.
The trial is expected to continue on May 26.
