Mytilene port reopens
It should be noted that as the Regional Governor of the North Aegean, Konstantinos Moutzouris, reported earlier today, traffic at the port of Mytilene is now operating normally. Speaking to Status FM 107.7, he noted that the port of Mytilene, which had been closed for seven days due to livestock farmers’ protests against measures to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, has now reopened.
Additionally, he clarified that the new Minister of Agricultural Development, Margaritis Schinas, announced a “support package, however what keeps the livestock farmers continuing their protests is the lack of trust in the speed of state services.” As he noted: “People, because they question the speed of the state, have found that in many cases, whether floods, earthquakes, or diseases, it is slow to respond, people are afraid that they will be delayed. And the livestock farmers come to me and say, I have three children, what do I do?”
