Revelations and many questions surround the case involving the death of 19-year-old Myrtto in Kefalonia. While authorities continue their investigation, new evidence comes to light, with suspicious chat activity now under scrutiny.
Myrtto death case: What Stavros Balaskas reported
The three young men accused in the case have been remanded in custody, while the forensic pathologist’s report and toxicology test results are expected to shed light on the exact causes of the 19-year-old’s death. “It’s as if they murdered her, as if they killed her deliberately, because they should have provided help at that moment to a person who was dying and they didn’t help her and left her to die,” police analyst Stavros Balaskas told Mega on Sunday morning (19/4).
“Police have proven and recorded in the preliminary investigation that the girl went there of her own will, climbed the stairs, entered the room, and used drugs. There were some other activities involving a very suspicious chat with an elderly man. There is video evidence. We’re waiting for it,” he emphasized.
Myrtto death case: “The crucial point is whether the death resulted from their actions“
Theodoros Vasilakópoulos, president of EODY and professor of pulmonology, also spoke about the 19-year-old on Mega, emphasizing: “Whenever we see a person who is not well, the first thing we do is call the ambulance and afterwards, if we know how, offer help.”
“The crucial point is whether the death resulted from their actions for them to be charged with homicide or not,” noted criminologist Theodoros Karagiannis. “Cases that receive media attention and have such social impact and very bad social precedent always have a much stricter approach initially,” the lawyer concluded.
The revelation by Giorgos Kalliakmanis
Honorary President of the Police Officers Union of Northeast Attica, Giorgos Kalliakmanis, made a revelation regarding the 19-year-old’s death. Speaking to STAR, he initially emphasized that the final drop with drugs that overflowed the cup was the young woman’s death, as the problem on the island is significant. He then revealed that the 66-year-old who sent 220 euros to Myrtto plays a central role in the case. However, it’s concerning that “there was a plan to force the girl into prostitution.”
