New chilling testimonies about the fatal traffic accident that left a 15-year-old dead and his 17-year-old friend critically injured in Paxos on Easter Sunday are coming to light. The tragic accident that plunged Paxos into mourning on Easter day occurred at a sharp turn, where the minor reportedly lost control of the motorcycle he was driving, entered the opposite lane, and collided head-on with a car driven by a 27-year-old woman. The 15-year-old’s family cannot believe the tragedy that “struck” their home, while his 17-year-old friend and passenger is fighting for his life with fractures throughout his body.
Paxos: Relatives and friends of 15-year-old victim share heartbreaking testimonies
“I want to see him (my brother) again to tell him everything I haven’t told him. I know he wasn’t wearing a helmet and that he was with a passenger,” says the victim’s sister. “They had gone out for a ride and he entered the opposite lane, it was on a turn and another car was coming from the opposite direction and he crashed into the car,” his uncle reports. “There were some kids with motorcycles who had apparently gone for a ride. It was afternoon. From what we learned, the boy was overtaking, didn’t see the oncoming car and crashed into it,” says a family friend.
Paxos: Taxi driver’s chilling description of fatal crash involving 15-year-old
The taxi driver’s account to “Live News,” who arrived at the scene minutes after the accident, is shocking. “From Paxos, I saw the one boy who came to Plataria. We are across from there. He came to Plataria for the ambulance to pick him up. The boy who survived. He was conscious. The child was in pain. Everything was scraped. Both his legs were mangled, but he was fully conscious. The child was talking. They were speeding, went left, hit the car. Imagine they hit the windshield and were thrown behind the car.” The incident is not isolated, according to island residents. “It’s widespread here, meaning from a very young age children ask for motorcycles, they all have motorcycles. They don’t have licenses, they don’t have insurance, I don’t know. The situation is very difficult because beyond the (15-year-old) there have been many other accidents in previous years with deaths of young children,” they characteristically note. The 24-year-old driver of the car was initially arrested on charges of manslaughter by negligence. On the prosecutor’s verbal order, she was released, while the investigation into the exact causes of the tragedy continues.
