Dimitrios Tsomocos was sworn in as deputy governor of the Bank of Greece on Thursday (24/9), at the Presidential Palace, in the presence of President of the Republic Konstantinos Tasoulas, Deputy Minister of Economy Athanasios Petralias, Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras, and Archbishop Ieronymos.

Mr. Tsomocos is a professor of financial economics and an academic member of the Saïd Business School and St. Edmund Hall at the University of Oxford. He completed the majority of his university studies at Yale University, where he earned a B.A. in Economics, as well as an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph.D. in Economics.
His doctoral dissertation, Essays on Monetary Theory, Banking, and General Economic Equilibrium, was completed under the supervision of John Geanakoplos and Martin Shubik. In 2002, he also received an M.A. from the University of Oxford.
He previously worked at the Bank of England. Since 2002, he has been a member of the Saïd Business School, where he serves as a professor of financial economics. He is also a Fellow at St. Edmund Hall and a member of its governing body. He has taught and contributed to the development of the DPhil programme at the Saïd Business School, and served as economic adviser to Antonis Samaras from 2010 to 2012.
