Under the terms of the agreement, PETRONAS — through its subsidiary PTUK — will supply six LNG cargoes per year from its Atlantic portfolio, totalling approximately 0.6 billion cubic metres per annum (bcma), over a five-year period beginning in 2027.
As stated in the joint announcement by both parties: “The agreement reinforces METLEN’s Energy Utility strategy within its Energy Division to diversify LNG supply sources, enhancing supply flexibility and resilience, while also contributing to energy security in Greece and the broader Southeast European region. At the same time, it strengthens Greece’s position as a strategic energy hub in the region.
Through its integrated energy operations and established presence across the entire natural gas value chain, METLEN continues to support market liquidity and efficient energy supply, reinforcing its role in the evolving European energy landscape.
For PETRONAS, the agreement reflects its commitment to delivering LNG supply solutions by leveraging its global portfolio and customer-focused capabilities. Through PTUK, PETRONAS continues to expand its presence in LNG markets west of Suez, with a particular focus on Europe and the Mediterranean, while deepening customer relationships in key growth markets.
This strategic agreement between PETRONAS and METLEN marks a significant step in further strengthening the relationship between the two companies and lays the groundwork for new collaboration opportunities.”
Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, Chief Executive Director of International Energy Supply & Trading at METLEN, commented: “The agreement with PETRONAS represents a major step forward in advancing METLEN’s strategy for diversifying LNG supply sources. By expanding our international partnerships with a leading global player in the LNG market, we are further enhancing supply flexibility and reliability — supporting both our customers and the broader regional market, as well as Greece’s role as an energy hub.”
Datuk Adif Zulkifli, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Gas & New Energy business of PETRONAS, stated: “The agreement with METLEN underscores PETRONAS’s commitment to delivering reliable and flexible LNG solutions that meet the evolving energy needs of our customers. As markets continue to navigate the priorities of energy security, affordability and energy transition, PETRONAS remains dedicated to creating value through its global LNG portfolio, trading capabilities and trusted partner relationships. We are particularly pleased to support METLEN’s supply diversification strategy and to contribute to strengthening energy resilience in Greece and the wider Southeast European region.”
