The identity details and photograph of the 59-year-old man who posed as a plumber are being released to the public by the Greek Police following permission from the competent prosecutor. This is the individual accused of stealing jewelry and cash worth over €280,000, primarily from elderly residents in the Pangrati area. The 59-year-old was arrested in Piraeus when officers from the Pangrati Crime Investigation Unit mapped his criminal activity and essentially caught him red-handed stealing from an elderly woman near the Municipal Theater.
Greek Police: Criminal charges filed against Pangrati robber
As stated in the official announcement by the Greek Police: “… Criminal charges have been filed against him for the crimes of aggravated theft, committed continuously, both completed and attempted, by a person who commits thefts professionally and where the total value of the stolen items exceeds €120,000.
The arrested individual is:
(surname) IOANNIDIS (name) Marinos, son of Dimitrios, born on 23-11-1966 in Green, Germany”.
Authorities are calling on citizens to contact the phone numbers 210-7297453 of the Pangrati Crime Investigation Unit and 210-6411111 of the Attica Crime Investigation Directorate, “… to provide any relevant information. It is noted that anonymity and confidentiality of communication are guaranteed”.
Authorities have identified the 59-year-old’s criminal activity in 15 different cases (14 thefts and one robbery), with his “theater of operations” being in Pangrati (7 thefts), Ambelokipoi, Patisia, Kypseli, Kallithea, and Piraeus.
The 59-year-old has been remanded in custody since October 20th, as it was simultaneously discovered that a conviction was pending against him. The Athens Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Appeals had previously sentenced him to three years and three months imprisonment for continuous fraud.
