New York City’s newly elected mayor, Zoran Mamtani, declared that his electoral victory serves as an example of how US President Donald Trump can be defeated, after Trump launched fierce criticism against his democratic socialist policies.
“If there’s any city that can show a nation, betrayed by Donald Trump, how to defeat him, it’s the city that created him,” Mamtani said in his speech to supporters.
“In this moment of political darkness, New York will be the light,” added the 34-year-old politician, the first Muslim to be elected mayor of the city.
