Rome tower collapse: Prosecutor’s investigation ordered
Two other workers sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital. Authorities blocked traffic in the area to facilitate the rescue operation, which continues with the help of firefighters and specialized vehicles.
A pub owner on Via del Colosseo, who was outside his establishment at the time of the collapse, emphasized: “Around 11:20, I was setting up tables outside the bar when I heard a very loud noise. It sounded like debris falling on construction pipes, but it was much louder. I turned around and saw a cloud of dust rising: part of the tower had collapsed.”
Authorities are investigating the causes of the collapse, with the Rome prosecutor’s office having opened an investigation into the incident.
