A helicopter crashed in a field in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom, according to police, with a 70-year-old man losing his life and three others injured. The 41-year-old pilot and two other passengers, a 58-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child, escaped with minor injuries. The helicopter was private and took off from Gamston airport near Retford shortly before it crashed. In a statement, the airport noted “we can confirm that an aircraft based here and operated by an airport tenant is involved in an accident.”

A spokesperson for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch stated: “The AAIB has been notified of an accident near Doncaster and has sent a team to begin the investigation.”
South Yorkshire police report that officers were called to respond after reports of a helicopter crash in a field near Ings Lane, in Bentley. It is not known how many people were on board the helicopter. In its announcement, the police stated:
“Today, at 10:14 a.m., we were called to Ings Lane, Bentley, where it was reported that a helicopter had crashed in a field. Officers and colleagues from the emergency services are at the scene of the accident. Ings Lane remains closed while we respond to the incident.
