Expert: “There is no reason for concern for Greece”
The president of the Organization of Earthquake Planning and Protection Efthymios Lekkas appeared reassuring after the strong earthquake in Turkey, clarifying that the seismic plates of Greece and Turkey are not connected.
Speaking to Action24, the university professor emphasized: “The affected area is isolated and unrelated to Greek territory. There is no reason for concern”.
He further explained that the tremor was felt in Lesbos and islands of the northeastern Aegean due to the shallow nature of the earthquake and the short distance from the epicenter, but the activity does not affect our country.
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake is the second major one to hit the region within three months, causing concern among residents and increased vigilance among Turkish authorities.
