All-night attacks by Russian drones unfolded in the capital of Ukraine with successive bombings causing powerful explosions throughout the city. Specifically, in the early hours of Friday (10/10), Russia launched fierce attacks with unmanned aircraft targeting Kyiv’s electrical grid and other infrastructure. At least 46 people were wounded and six killed – including a child – from the 465 Shahed-type drones and decoy drones that Russia launched against Ukraine in a massive raid.
Ukraine: Kyiv left without power from Russian raids
Meanwhile, the successive Russian attacks caused powerful explosions throughout Kyiv, causing extensive power outages on the left bank, a large part of the city located on the eastern side of the Dnieper River. Additionally, the attacks hit Kyiv’s energy network, with drones targeting at least two combined heat and power facilities. According to Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba’s post on the Telegram app, the bombardments carried out by Russia during the night on Ukrainian infrastructure resulted in water supply being cut off for 2 million consumers in Kyiv. He said that 4,000 buildings in the capital remain without water and that work to reconnect them to the water supply network continues. Moscow’s forces deployed 32 missiles, including two hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, 14 Iskander-M or KN-23 ballistic missiles, 12 Iskander-K cruise missiles and four Kh-59/69 air-launched missiles.
Ukraine intercepted 405 Russian drones and 15 missiles
It should be noted that Ukrainian air defense intercepted 405 Russian drones and 15 missiles, while four missiles failed to reach their targets. Thirteen missiles and 60 drones hit 19 locations, according to information. Videos and photos shared on social media show at least one apartment building engulfed in flames. The result, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, was debris from a downed drone. The attack on Kyiv was part of a simultaneous wave of attacks on other Ukrainian cities. In the south, regional authorities in Zaporizhzhia reported that Russian unmanned aircraft hit residential areas and infrastructure, causing multiple fires. Three civilians were wounded in these attacks and officials later said a seven-year-old boy was killed. In the central industrial city of Dnipro, residents also heard explosions throughout the night and local media reported power outages in some neighborhoods.
