A fatal accident occurred on Thursday (17/9) in Thessaloniki, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old motorcycle rider. The tragedy, according to thestival.gr, happened around 09:00, when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck on Georgikis Scholis Avenue in eastern Thessaloniki.

Specifically, as police sources report, a truck driven by a 54-year-old from Bulgaria attempted to cross Georgikis Scholis Avenue perpendicularly under the guidance of three people. At that moment, the motorcycle ridden by the 29-year-old, which was traveling along the avenue, collided with the truck, causing the motorcyclist to suffer serious injuries.
In video footage that has come to light, the moment of the violent collision has been captured. As shown in the video, the motorcycle rider doesn’t have time to react and stop the two-wheeler, consequently crashing into the truck’s cargo area. The moment of impact can be seen after 0:26 in the video below.
An ambulance rushed to the scene and transported the 29-year-old to “G. Gennimatas” Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries hours later and passed away.
Four arrests made
Regarding the fatal accident, both the truck driver and the three people (two Greeks and one Albanian) who were giving him directions have been arrested. They are expected to be brought before the prosecutor tomorrow. The preliminary investigation into the circumstances of the accident is being conducted by the Thessaloniki Traffic Police Subdivision.
