A 1.5-year suspended prison sentence was imposed by a Berlin court on a 16-year-old who was found guilty of conspiracy in preparing an attack on a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna in 2024.

The court announced today that the defendant had confessed and that the sentence, which is appealable, is in line with the verdict requested by prosecutors. The 16-year-old defendant sent the would-be perpetrator videos with bomb-making instructions and put him in contact with a member of the Islamic State.
Multiple arrests
Police made multiple arrests in connection with the alleged attack plot targeting a Taylor Swift concert at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium. The three scheduled concerts by the popular singer in August 2024 were cancelled due to security concerns.
Austria’s coalition government agreed in June to a plan that allows police to monitor written communications of suspects in order to prevent terrorist attacks.
