Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Visited Hippokrateio Hospital
The Prime Minister toured the Emergency Department facilities and was briefed on the progress of the works, which are being carried out in phases to avoid affecting service provision to citizens, and are expected to be completed in September.
The renovated Department will cover an area of 990 square meters, 282 sq.m. larger compared to the existing structure, and will house services for receiving and treating a wide range of cases. Among other features, the new Emergency Department will operate a modern patient triage area for immediate assessment, a resuscitation room for life-threatening cases, an outpatient clinic for milder cases, unified examination rooms covering multiple specialties, a disinfection and isolation room for infectious patients, a small biochemical laboratory, and short-stay rooms for cases requiring brief patient monitoring.
Talked with patients and hospital staff
Kyriakos Mitsotakis had the opportunity to speak with patients and Hippokrateio staff, listening to their needs and the challenges they face.
The Emergency Department upgrade, funded by the Recovery Fund, is part of a network of interventions aimed at both strengthening Hippokrateio with staff and modernizing its facilities and equipment. The hospital’s budget in 2024 reached 94 million euros, increased by 87.9% compared to 2019, while medical staff during the same period has increased by 16%.
In the same context, projects for the energy upgrade of the hospital’s building complex are also being implemented, with ESPA resources, with a total budget of 4.96 million euros, which are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
