Following the meeting between Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Whitkov at the Kremlin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke of signs that Russia is willing to discuss a ceasefire. In his evening address, however, he warned that there should be no illusions about Moscow’s true intentions: “The important thing is not to be deceived in the details – neither us nor the United States.”
This development also became the subject of coordinated contacts between Zelensky, Donald Trump, and European leaders, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, confirming the increased diplomatic activity regarding the future of the war.
Zelensky: Skepticism after Putin’s meeting with American envoy Steve Whitkov
In his evening address to the Ukrainian people, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia appears “more willing” to proceed with a ceasefire, following the direct meeting today in Moscow between US envoy Steve Whitkov and Vladimir Putin.
“The pressure being exerted on them is paying off,” the Ukrainian president emphasized. Nevertheless, he did not hide his skepticism about Russian intentions, characteristically noting: “The important thing is not to be deceived in the details – neither us nor the United States.”
The topic of the Putin-Whitkov meeting was also discussed during the telephone conversation that Donald Trump had earlier with Zelensky and European leaders, including British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
