The Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Giannis Kefalogiannis, visited today the 1st Special Forest Operations Unit and the Training Center, where 91 new forest commandos are being prepared. As he stated in his social media post, the EMODE units “are the spearhead in the tough battles against forest fires – expertly trained for immediate intervention in inaccessible areas.” This year – he added – they strengthened the EMODE network with 4 new units (Chania, Evia, Ilia, Zakynthos), while another one is being established in Kavala.
“The EMODE units, which have been established in the country, are a critical operational unit of the Fire Service, specialized in forest fires and have delivered results in recent years,” the minister noted. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the entire Fire Service, “because for another year they selflessly give their best to protect lives, property, and our natural environment.”
At the same time, Mr. Kefalogiannis emphasized that “special attention is needed, especially in the coming days, because they will be critical and we must all show maximum capability regarding awareness.”
“With planning, reinforcement, and cooperation, we confront the climate crisis,” he concluded.
