What to watch out for when shopping on Cyber Monday
Since Cyber Monday deals revolve primarily around online shopping, consumers need to pay close attention to the following:
- Check the real price: Don’t be swayed by large discount percentages. Use price comparison tools and price history trackers to verify what the product actually cost before the sale and determine whether the discount is genuine.
- Transaction security: Stick to reputable online retailers and make your purchases from personal devices over secure networks, avoiding public Wi-Fi. Also check that the website address begins with https:// — though keep in mind that this alone does not guarantee a store’s trustworthiness.
- Return and warranty policies: Read the retailer’s exchange, refund, and warranty policy carefully, as some deals may come with special terms or restrictions attached.
- Availability and delivery times: Check whether the product is in stock and when it is expected to arrive. An unusually low price may come with a lengthy wait.
- Hidden charges: Before completing your purchase, review the final total, including shipping costs and any cash-on-delivery fees. Additional charges can significantly reduce — or completely wipe out — the savings from the discount.
Online or in-store: What do Greek shoppers prefer?
Online shopping offers convenience and a wide range of options, while physical stores provide direct contact with the product and a different kind of buying experience. But which option does the Greek consumer actually prefer? According to the EY Greece consumer survey, the EY Future Consumer Index Greece 2026, which examines this year’s trends in the Greek market during the sales season, online stores appear to have the edge over physical retailers in the preferences of Greek consumers.
Specifically, according to the survey:
- 35% of consumers plan to make most of their purchases from Greek or international online stores.
- 5% will shop via apps or social media.
- 34% will make most of their purchases in physical stores.
- 21% say they will split their shopping roughly equally between online and in-store.
