The first vacationers of August are leaving Athens en masse, however the beaches are packed while Ermou Street maintains heavy traffic from those who chose to combine their holidays with shopping. While the exodus of vacationers may be massive, many have stayed behind and are choosing Attica beaches to cool off.

August marks the great escape of citizens from urban centers. However, there’s another side to summer. These are the citizens who either cannot escape or will leave for just a few days. First Sunday of August and the beaches of the Athens basin are full. Some are preparing for vacations, some have returned from short trips, and some will stay in the enclosed city. From early morning, residents have flooded the beaches for a swim and to spend relaxing hours by the sea.
Even those who will eventually manage to go on vacation are choosing economical solutions.
