Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held separate meetings today with Citi CEO Jane Fraser and Bank of America’s President for International Bernard Mensah, along with senior executives from both financial institutions. The executives expressed their strong appreciation for the achievements of the Greek economy and Greece more broadly.

The Prime Minister reiterated that prudent fiscal policy remains the absolute top priority, forming the foundation for achieving budget surpluses and enabling the rapid reduction of public debt. The benefits of this policy are clearly evident, he stressed, as Greek bond prices have been comparatively less affected during the recent market turbulence. Particularly noteworthy, he added, is the fact that Greece’s borrowing costs are now lower than those of four G7 nations — the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.
The discussions also placed particular emphasis on the challenges facing energy markets, as well as the Greek government’s initiatives at the European level aimed at curbing rising fuel prices — especially heating oil costs for end consumers.
Talks further covered investments in Greece across renewable energy and industry, as well as the development of data centers, with special mention of the recently announced partnership between PPC (Public Power Corporation) and Amazon Web Services. Emphasis was also placed on the growing use of artificial intelligence in public administration, with the goal of improving the efficiency of citizen-facing government services.
