A woman plunged from the 11th floor of a residential building in Berlin — where a fire had broken out earlier — only to land seconds later in the rescue basket held by a firefighter. The dramatic scene marks the climax of a blaze that erupted on Friday morning in a high-rise residential building in the Friedrichshain district, leaving 13 people injured.
The fire department’s aerial ladder truck could only reach the 9th floor, leaving the trapped woman dangling from a window ledge as flames closed in on her.
More than 130 firefighters battled to bring the fire under control in the 21-story building, located just a short distance from the Ostbahnhof East Railway Station.
