The President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tassoulas, sent a powerful message to Turkey, calling on Ankara to officially recognize the Pontic Genocide, speaking from Vermio and the Monastery of Panagia Soumela, where he attended the celebration of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. Among other things, he noted: “Despite the horrific genocide it endured, Pontic Hellenism has managed to be reborn with every generation and to live on for as long as Panagia Soumela stands.”
Tassoulas from Vermio: Turkey must recognize the Pontic Genocide — there is no place for such ethnic cleansing practices in the modern world
Concluding his address, the President of the Hellenic Republic stated: “In the name of this Hellenism and its trials, the state is obligated to ensure that the genocide suffered by Pontic Greeks is spread across the world and acknowledged by all. Even Turkey must recognize this genocide, as such practices of ethnic cleansing have no place in the modern world.”
