The charred body discovered inside a vehicle near Spata has been identified as a woman. A wildfire had broken out in the area earlier on Tuesday afternoon (11/08). According to preliminary findings from forensic experts and police, the unfortunate woman, who was driving through the area, hit rocks and lost control of her vehicle. She was found with her foot still on the gas pedal, apparently continuing to press it in a state of panic. The vehicle subsequently crashed and caught fire, which appears to have also ignited the wider blaze in the surrounding area.
It is worth noting that initial investigative indications pointed toward suicide; however, the evidence has since shifted. Her age has not yet been determined, and a formal identification still needs to be carried out.

Earlier today, fire services were placed on high alert after a blaze broke out at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in low vegetation near Spata. During firefighting operations, crews discovered a body inside a private vehicle located between the areas of Imeros Pefkos and Etos Steko.
The fire was brought under partial control. A total of 121 firefighters took part in the operation, supported by two infantry unit groups from the 1st EMODE, volunteers, and 36 fire trucks.
European forces currently stationed in Greece as part of a pre-positioning program also joined the effort: 23 Romanian firefighters with five vehicles and 18 French firefighters with three vehicles. Two aircraft and two helicopters conducted periodic aerial operations, while the Municipality of Spata provided additional water tanker support. It is noted that at 3:42 p.m., Emergency Alert 112 was activated, sending notifications to residents and individuals in the broader area.
