A case that has shocked Rhodes and caused outrage in the local community came to light in recent weeks, when a social services report revealed serious domestic abuse. The 31-year-old woman reported that her father had been continuously raping her since the age of 16, in a family environment dominated by fear, coercion and the perpetrator’s absolute control.
As revealed by “Dimokratiki” newspaper, the abuse took place inside the family home and lasted for years, until four years ago when she became pregnant with her second child. The case took an even more serious dimension as DNA genetic testing showed a strong probability that one of her children is the result of the incestuous relationship, meaning the father is simultaneously the child’s grandfather.
The charges being investigated are particularly serious and include: continuous rape, incest, abuse of a minor by a family member, and domestic violence.
Rhodes: DNA findings decisive – The victim’s shocking testimony
Following a prosecutor’s order, DNA genetic testing was conducted between the alleged perpetrator and his 3-year-old granddaughter. The test results were revealing, as genetic compatibility was confirmed, dramatically strengthening the probability that he is both father and grandfather of the child, scientifically confirming the incestuous relationship. This finding, combined with the victim’s extensive and documented testimony, creates a solid and disturbing case.
In her testimony, the woman spoke for the first time in detail about the horror she experienced. She described how her father had imposed himself on her psychologically and physically, trapping her in an environment of absolute control with no possibility of escape. As she testified, the abuse didn’t stop when she was a minor or after she reached adulthood, referring to “years of fear and absolute dependence“.
The 55-year-old’s defense: Denies rape, claims “consensual relationship
The 55-year-old father, when called to give his defense, denied the rape charges but admitted that there was a sexual relationship with his daughter, lasting approximately one month according to his claims. Moreover, he called this relationship “consensual” and stated that “they stopped when they realized it wasn’t right“.
His statement, as expected, caused outrage and strong reactions.
Following the complaint, laboratory findings and the accused’s testimony, a case file has been formed and the case is now proceeding to the next phase of the investigative process. The victim has already been informed about available protection measures and psychosocial support provided for domestic violence victims.
