Some stories prove beyond doubt that inner strength can overcome any obstacle. One such remarkable case is that of Zoe Lemonaki, a mother of five from Heraklion, Crete, who has shown that determination and dreams know no age or other limits. When the university admission scores were announced on Thursday (23.07.2026), her anxiety gave way to vindication. Zoe secured first place in the Department of Early Childhood Education at the University of Crete in Rethymno — her very first choice in the Greek University Admissions Exams.
This achievement becomes even more extraordinary when you consider her academic performance. This year she graduated from high school with a grade of 19.4, while simultaneously earning a diploma in Early Childhood Care with a grade of 19.5. She accomplished all of this while also facing a serious health condition, never allowing her difficulties to derail her from her goal.
A journey filled with obstacles, dedication, and support
Her path was never an easy one. After losing her mother, she married young and left school to devote herself to her family. Years later, she found the courage to return to the classroom, attending all three years of the 2nd Vocational High School (EPAL) of Heraklion, where through relentless effort she managed to excel, as reported by neakriti.gr.
As she herself confides, the loss of her mother became a guiding light in her life: “Against the dark backdrop of my life, my mother was the ray of light.”
Today, as a mother of five children aged between 3 and 16, she acknowledges that none of this would have been possible without the support of her loved ones, sending her own message to everyone: “It is so important to have the support of your family and especially your children. Despite the hardships, I made it.”
